Incorrect Data

How to fix wrong aircraft types, times, airports, and other flight details.

Wrong Aircraft Type

Why It Happens

  • Database uses scheduled aircraft
  • Last-minute equipment changes
  • Multiple aircraft types on route
  • Airline didn't update system

How to Fix

  1. Click flight in logbook
  2. Select "Edit Flight"
  3. Update aircraft type field
  4. Choose from dropdown or type manually
  5. Save changes

Finding Correct Aircraft

  • Check boarding pass
  • Look at ticket/booking
  • Search on FlightAware
  • Check airline seatmap
  • Review photos from flight

Aircraft Code Formats

ICAO codes (preferred):

  • B738 = Boeing 737-800
  • A320 = Airbus A320
  • B77W = Boeing 777-300ER

Also accepted:

  • Full names: "Boeing 737-800"
  • IATA codes: "73H"
  • Variant details: "737-800 Winglets"

Incorrect Times

Scheduled vs. Actual

Scheduled: Planned departure/arrival Actual: What really happened

Most databases show scheduled times.

Updating Times

Departure Time

  1. Edit flight
  2. Find "Departure Time"
  3. Enter actual time (gate pushback)
  4. Select timezone if needed
  5. Save

Arrival Time

  1. Edit flight
  2. Find "Arrival Time"
  3. Enter actual time (gate arrival)
  4. Verify timezone
  5. Save

Time Format

Use 24-hour format:

  • 14:30 not 2:30 PM
  • 09:00 not 9:00 AM
  • Include colon separator

Timezone Issues

  • Times stored in local airport time
  • Departure time = origin timezone
  • Arrival time = destination timezone
  • Don't convert to your home timezone

Delays and Changes

  • Always use actual times flown
  • Note significant delays in comments
  • Update if flight departed different day
  • Record actual flight duration

Wrong Airports

Similar Airport Codes

Easy to confuse:

  • BRU (Brussels) / BRS (Bristol)
  • SYD (Sydney AU) / YQY (Sydney CA)
  • LGA/JFK/EWR (all NYC area)

Multiple Airports in City

London: LHR, LGW, STN, LTN, LCY, SEN NYC: JFK, LGA, EWR Tokyo: NRT, HND Paris: CDG, ORY, BVA

Fixing Airport Codes

  1. Edit flight
  2. Update departure/arrival airport
  3. Use 3-letter IATA code
  4. Verify correct city airport
  5. Save changes

Finding Correct Airport

  • Check boarding pass carefully
  • Review booking confirmation
  • Look at airport name on ticket
  • Check gate number ranges
  • Review ground transportation used

Incorrect Flight Number

Why It's Wrong

  • Codeshare confusion
  • Entered wrong number
  • Flight number changed
  • Booked vs. operated difference

Updating Flight Number

  1. Edit flight
  2. Change flight number field
  3. Use format: AA123 (no spaces)
  4. Include airline code
  5. Save

Which Number to Use

Recommendation: Use operating airline

Example:

  • Booked: AA6789 (marketing)
  • Operated: BA1234 (actual)
  • Use: BA1234

Wrong Airline

Common Mistakes

  • Codeshare partners
  • Regional vs. mainline
  • Booking site vs. operator
  • Airline mergers/rebrands

Fixing Airline

  1. Edit flight
  2. Select correct airline from dropdown
  3. Or type airline name/code
  4. Update flight number if needed
  5. Save

Regional Carriers

If shows mainline instead of regional:

  • "United" → "SkyWest"
  • "American" → "Republic Airways"
  • "Delta" → "Endeavor Air"

Use actual operating carrier.

Missing or Extra Data

Adding Missing Details

Common fields to update:

  • Seat number

Bulk Corrections

Multiple Flights Wrong

If same error on many flights:

  1. Export flights to CSV
  2. Fix in spreadsheet
  3. Delete incorrect flights
  4. Re-import corrected CSV

Better for: 10+ flights with same issue

Individual Fixes

Best for occasional errors:

  • Edit each flight manually
  • More control
  • Less risk of data loss

Verifying Flight Data

Cross-Reference Sources

  • Boarding pass (most reliable)
  • Booking confirmation
  • Airline app/website
  • FlightAware historical data
  • Photos/notes from trip

What to Trust

Most reliable:

  1. Boarding pass
  2. Ticket/itinerary
  3. Your notes/photos

Less reliable:

  1. Memory
  2. Old databases
  3. Third-party sites

Preventing Errors

At Time of Flight

  • Save boarding pass
  • Screenshot confirmation
  • Take cockpit photo (shows aircraft type)
  • Note gate/terminal
  • Record actual times

When Logging

  • Use primary sources
  • Double-check codes
  • Verify aircraft type
  • Confirm times
  • Review before saving

Regular Audits

  • Spot-check old entries
  • Verify important flights
  • Update when new info available
  • Fix errors as found

Special Corrections

Diverted Flights

  1. Keep original flight number
  2. Update arrival airport to diversion
  3. Add note about diversion
  4. Adjust arrival time
  5. Optionally add second leg if continued

Flight Cancellations

  • Delete from logbook if didn't fly
  • Or mark as cancelled
  • Don't count in statistics

Split Flights

If one booking, two flight numbers:

  • Log as two separate flights
  • Use each actual flight number
  • Note connection in comments

Data Sources

Update Database

If data consistently wrong:

  • Report to SkyJourney
  • Include correct details
  • Helps future users
  • Keeps database accurate
